Rachael and Ed chose St Peters Church Caversham just north of the river at Reading Berkshire for their June marriage ceremony. Rachael had some getting ready photographs at her nearby home and then I met with Ed and his entourage taking a few drinks in the Griffin pub just a short walk from the church.
St Peters has a gorgeous interior as you'll see. Whats more the layout allows for photographers to move positions to obtain a variety of images without causing any distraction and the vicar permits wedding photography at St Peters pretty well without restriction. Photographers can shoot from behind the choir pews at the front enabling images of the couples faces to be captured during the all important wedding vows.
The church has a good looking churchyard, if a little crowded. For this reason we walked down to the nearby ornamental gardens for some formal photographs.
The wedding breakfast and reception were held a few minutes drive away at Silchester House in the North Hampshire village of Silchester - which is also known as the old Roman town of Calleva. Silchester House is a light and roomy venue, well maintained inside and outside and with lots of alternative backdrops for photography. Wedding photographers could consider shooting at the old Roman town as the remains of the walls and amphitheatre are certainly photogenic but you don't really need to go outside of the grounds if you're booked for Silchester House. This venue is of course licensed for civil marriage ceremonies and you can view some in other Ashton Lamont galleries.
In the evening we were entertained by a ceili band (pronounced "kay-lee"). If you don't know what that is, its an energetic form of music and dancing usually in the Irish and Scots traditions. The dancing is usually preceded by a short demonstration and then all hell breaks loose!
Silchester House is very close to Ashton Lamont's base in Burghfield Common Berkshire - only a dog walk away through the lanes and bridle paths! The venue is part of a group including Cain Manor and Notely Abbey and you'll see that some Ashton Lamont photos are featured on their website. If you're looking for the postcode in order to use satnav (its not on their website) its RG7 2NA.
