This small selection of 21 images in random order from the original clients gallery of 471 illustrates Berkshire wedding photography by photographer Ashton Lamont, at a wedding at St Marys Church Burghfield. Shooting usually runs right through the day from getting ready in the morning to the first dance and beyond in the evening. Background Information

Set piece shots of the flowers are usually done during the getting ready part of the day. Think how great it will be to have a pristine record of all the arrangements and colours that you can look at years after your wedding! Your dress is also an important part of the getting ready photography. Closeups make terrific backgrounds for montages of images in flushmount wedding albums. You'll also be able to show your friends who couldn't make it to the wedding all the detail using your online gallery - perhaps whilst you are at your office "working"!

Its nice to get some scene setting shots of your venue before the crowds arrive. We can see in the slideshow the choir of Burghfield St Marys church warming up before the main event and our lady vicar lighting the candles before the start of the marriage ceremony.

The bride and her dad didn't have far to travel - just next door in fact! No sooner do you arrive at the church than its time to make your grand entrance - also known as the processional. If you plan a civil ceremony the registrars will usually ask you to arrive between twenty and thirty minutes early ready for special meetings which are conducted separately with the bride and the groom. You must not be late for civil ceremonies as often the registrars have several weddings booked in quick succession for the same day and may have to leave without marrying you! Church weddings are a bit easier but there may still be another wedding scheduled after your own and you risk the two parties getting tangled up with each other - not good! There were no such dramas at Lisa and Carls wedding and everything went like clockwork.

Burghfield St Marys Church has a balcony from which lovely scene setting images can be shot. You do need to arrange beforehand for the key to be made available as this dangerous structure is usually kept locked. Photography was allowed during the ceremony, with just the usual rules like don't use flashguns and don't cause a distraction in moving about. Some great character shots of the guests can be taken using long lenses from a distance. Any image can be converted to black and white or other effects. Where photography is permitted priority is given to shooting the parents and other important members of the bridal party as well as the bride and groom. Shots are taken from different angles if it is possible to change positions without disturbing the proceedings. Wide angle lenses enable the atmosphere of the ceremony to be recorded. Its great if the actual exchange of rings can be photographed. That depends a lot on the layout of the church, the available light, and any restrictions on the position and movement of the photographer. The ring exchange has been shot here from a distance using a specialist long lens.

Sometimes the couple choose to light unity candles towards the end of the ceremony. The use of specialised camera bodies which work well in low light and advanced techniques ensure that the candle flames are visible in the photos. Then finally the bride and groom make their grand exit - otherwise known as the recessional. This is one of the most difficult of wedding subjects to shoot as almost invariably the light is low, the couple move fast, and guests randomly jump out in front of the photographer to shoot their own images!

The couples reception was in a marquee in lovely private gardens very close to the church and started shortly after the end of the ceremony. Sometimes the wedding breakfast is preceded by a receiving line. This involves the couple, usually joined by the parents and sometimes the bridesmaids and groomsmen, greeting all the guests as they enter. If you plan to have a receiving line its best to allow twenty to thirty minutes for 60-100 guests. And don't get into any long conversations unless you want your meal to spoil! The reception, or wedding breakfast, is a great opportunity for character shots of the speakers and guests. Usually photography ceases whilst your guests are actually eating as they won't welcome being photographed at that stage! A friend of the family provided live background music and he is seen here breaking off to enjoy the speeches.

We had very bright sunlight during the day for this June wedding and whilst sunshine is always welcome at weddings the photos can be quite harsh. Its good to make some time available later in the day when the conditions are more forgiving such as for this image of the bride with some of her friends in the evening. Most couples arrange to have an official First Dance in the evening. As the evening progresses everyone lets their hair down and enjoys the hospitality. There's always a good atmosphere at weddings and that why they are such a pleasure to photograph.
