Background Information
St William of York Church in the university area of Reading Berkshire was the chosen venue for Lucy and Pauls marriage ceremony. The parish has two churches, the other one being St James Church in Reading town centre right next to Forbury Gardens.
The priest Father Dominic is helpful and wedding photographers should not experience any serious restrictions on photography during the ceremony at either church.
St William of York church is modern and quite minimalist compared to St James Church but it looks good inside. The natural light and the availability of a balcony at the back and an alcove at the front help to shoot a good variety of photos. The grounds outside St Williams are small and not photogenic so its a good idea to plan for some formal photos at your reception venue or a local beauty spot.
St James Church only has a small area of its own outside as well but it is only a few yards walk to Forbury Gardens. Colourful Forbury Gardens are looked after by Reading Council and are always maintained to a high standard. Permits are not required to shoot wedding photographs in the Gardens but the head gardener should be informed beforehand. Also you will need to be aware that the Gardens are a public area and you will not have it to yourself. The ruins of Reading Abbey are a short walk away.
We had lousy weather for the start of this May wedding and we had to dodge the showers right through the day. One big advantage of May weddings is that there is enough daylight to shoot the formal photos after the wedding breakfast and into the evening. This is what we did for Lucy and Paul.
The wedding reception took place a short drive away at Trunkwell Mansion House Beech Hill Reading Berkshire. Its just south of Junction 11 of the M4 then down a few country lanes. Trunkwell also maintains its grounds to a high standard and there are lots of alternative colourful backdrops. The interior of the old house is also picturesque and the marquee always looks great inside. Trunkwell is also licensed for civil wedding ceremonies as you'll see from other Ashton Lamont sample galleries. Its also very active hosting corporate events, school proms, summer balls etc and Ashton Lamont shoots these from time to time.
