Many clients whose only previous experience of professional photography is within a studio find it difficult to visualise how top rate results can be achieved on location but would prefer a more relaxed photoshoot than the standard studio experience. Wouldn't it be great to have your portrait shoot at your home or at a picturesque location of your choosing. Think how much easier it is to look your best, to choose alternative attire at a moments notice, to have a friend help you, to settle the kids and pets ready for a family portrait, to have a shoot in the evening or a weekend when you and your spouse are relaxed and both available, to not have the hassle of a journey into a town centre, to not have to take time off work..... that is on-location photography!

How Does On Location Portrait Photography Work?
You can tell us what you require but if you really don't know where to start then as photographers we will have plenty of suggestions. On location portrait photography offers you the opportunity to vary just about anything. You may be able to view unedited images on a laptop computer whilst your shoot is in progress.
We carry an extensive range of powerful lights softboxes reflectors and backgrounds, enabling studio style images to be captured. Its surprising how easily these can be set up in even quite compact homes. High powered battery flash heads with modifiers are used where mains power is not available or where space is at a premium.
You may prefer a more modern "environmental" style. Again the studio equipment may be used but instead of an artificial background we photograph you featuring your beautiful lounge, your characterful workshop or your colourful garden.
We may photograph you against a pure black or pure white background to achieve a stunning "high key" effect.
Lighting is used to vary the effect. A soft even lighting tends to be most suitable for children, for makeovers, for glamour, and for groups. But for individuals greater contrast can add an edgy quality especially in black and white.
Shots of people engaged in their hobbies and occupations often have a high interest value.
Outdoor shoots at photogenic locations are a popular choice, regardless of the time of year. We use fully sealed equipment so you can be sure the weather has little opportunity to interfere. But should conditions be very poor we recommend you have a fall-back location such as the nearby home of one of the participants. Even big groups can be photographed in quite small areas. If your group is very large and an outdoor shoot is not practical consider a special "montage" where several individual images are combined onto an attractive background.
Please be sure that your proposed location allows photography. Parks such as the Royal Parks in central London may require permits.
Images are uploaded to our Client Area for your approval and ordering, and may be password protected on request. Alternatively, watermarked proofs may be supplied on disc for clients who prefer not to use the internet.
How Much Does It Cost?
There are two parts to the total cost.
- First is a "sitting fee" which is a fixed charge paid in advance and is not refundable as you are paying to retain our services for the session booked.
- Second are charges for prints, files, photo books and other products.

What Products Can I Purchase?
- Digital Files: A very popular choice now is for all the images in your online gallery to be supplied in high resolution on disc with the appropriate copyright release for your use. You can duplicate it for the use of your family and friends (commercial use is NOT permitted except by prior written agreement). Every image is individually edited for colour balance, contrast, and skin tones, and minor blemishes are removed. Three versions of each image are supplied (a) “printready” sized ready to print at 7.5”x5” and requires no further input from you (b) “prepress-ready” which you use to obtain enlargements, odd sizes, or for home editing by enthusiasts (c) “webready” optimised to look good whilst keeping the file size small for sending by email and use on personal websites n.b. unlike other photographers we don't just dump a bunch of files on you! The files are easy to use and instructions are provided. The file quality is exactly the same as that used to produce our own prints and albums.
- Photographic Prints: Three standard sizes are offered. These are 10"x8", 9"x6", and 7"x5". Each come in a card mount so that you can display the print straight away without the need for a frame. You can also specify your own non-standard sizes.
- Wallprints: Three standard sizes are offered. These are 20"x16", 16"x12", and 14"x11". Again you can also specify your own non-standard sizes. The surfaces can be photographic paper or canvas. Wallprints are usually supplied rolled in heavy duty tubes ready for you to select a frame of your choice from a department store or specialist framer.
- Coffee Table Books: Your images are printed directly onto thick paper and bound into the coffee table book. Visualise the type of high quality book featuring photos that you might purchase from a high street bookstore and you'll soon get the idea. The book is 12"x12" or 8"x8" and has a real leather cover in black, white, or coffee. The page backgrounds can be black or ivory. Each individual image normally has a keyline around its perimeter in black or ivory. You choose the images and materials. You can provide as much or as little input as you wish: you can specify not only which images to use but their priority, relative sizes, cropping, and your preferences for design features such as black and white and sepia effects. We then design the layout and put it online for your approval.
You can choose colour or black and white and other popular finishes such as sepia on a per image basis, and you can specify a crop to alter the composition if required.
Complex retouching and tasteful special effects may be undertaken using the latest state of the art software and techniques.
Occasionally photos cannot be edited into one particular aspect ratio - think about how widescreen television screens compare to standard TV screens. In that case we will may contact you to obtain further instructions. For example a "10x8" image may be sized at 9"x6" and placed on a black background measuring 10"x8" with a narrow white keyline around the actual image; you can then trim the background to taste to fit into a frame of your choice.

For our standard terms and conditions please download the General Photography Contract. In the absence of a written contract Ashton Lamont accepts your booking only on the express condition you accept that all the terms and conditions of the General Photography Contract apply without variation. Please note that different terms apply to (i) commercial work such as publicity shots. Substantial savings may be available where you have several staff who require portraits at the same time and at the same location. Images can be captured digitally direct to a laptop computer enabling staff to view (unedited) immediately (ii) corporate and college event work because there may be high volume savings (iii) weddings.
