Background Information and Highlights
The quaint old Cantley House Hotel Wokingham Berkshire is located on the outskirts of Wokingham and close to the M3 M4 and M25 motorways and so naturally is easy to reach from all over the south of England. It has plenty of onsite car parking.
The hotel is a medium sized old country house that has retained its Edwardian style charm throughout. It is well maintained and there has been a recent significant gorgeous refurbishment. Outside it has extensive gardens which are well landscaped and kept in good order. There are shaded areas available should the sun be too bright for top quality portraits - which are always better when shot in light shade.
The Wokingham registrars responsible for weddings at the hotel are easy going and sympathetic to the needs of professional photographers and videographers. The Oak Room in which ceremonies usually take place can be a tight fit for the purposes of photography and video as the bay window feature where the main desk is positioned makes it tricky to get the best angles but its a great looking room and the registrars are very helpful. Larger weddings can take place in the adjacent Briar Barn and of course outside.

The bride and groom did a “first look” which is a private moment before the wedding ceremony where the couple sees each other in their wedding attire on the day for the first time. It is unusual in the UK but a common practice in other countries including the USA and - in this case Australia - which is where our bride and groom live
The bride and groom had written their “vows” in advance and read them to each other. How cute!

I shot lots of the “must have” semi-formal group photos requested by the bride and groom. The bride also wanted some less that formal photos!

The Briar Barn is adjacent to the main hotel building and is normally utilised for the wedding breakfast and reception. This photo illustrates it set up ready for the days celebrations.

Most couples like to set aside a few minutes for some formal and semi-formal photos after their ceremony in the lovely grounds of the Cantley House Hotel
Big group photos are popular and can be shot from a vantage point on the fire escape or from an upper floor bedroom window. You can see the gazebo in the background and this is a good choice of location for wedding ceremonies weather permitting
The terrace outside the Oak Room is ideal for group photos if the weather has been wet and the lawns too damp and soft

It is popular with brides and grooms to have some portraits of their guests some time during the wedding breakfast. Many photographers refuse to do this - more fool them, do check for this before you book a photographer who might claim that such photos compromise their so-called artistic style!

A Chas 'n Dave tribute band provided the music for the evenings dancing for this wedding. That certainly got everyone up and jumping to a host of cockney classics!
