Background Information and Highlights
The beautiful riverside wedding venue The Great House at Sonning is one of several local “Coppa Club” venues including the Swan At Streatley. It is a very popular Berkshire venue for wedding ceremonies and receptions.
The hotel is located just to the east of Reading and the west of Maidenhead. It is a short distance from the M4 motorway and so is easy to reach. There is a reasonable amount of free onsite car parking - though the car park can get full so arrive early to avoid any complications!
The Great House had a very extensive refurbishment some time ago and is much improved as the main function room for wedding receptions has been changed from long and rather narrow to a much wider rectangular design as you’ll see below.
One of the brides whose wedding I shot at this venue came back again for her 40th birthday party - can you see which bride is featured in both events? The family has booked me for lots of other parties as well!
My favourite photo in this set is a golden oldie (before the Great House Coppa Club was refurbished and redesigned) featuring the bride seated alongside the famous photograph of Audrey Hepburn in her movie Breakfast At Tiffany's. The actress and the bride both have a similar appearance and with short hair and tiaras, whilst one has the cigarette holder and the other the straw. It was not a set up – I just got lucky!
The registrars responsible for civil partnership and marriage ceremonies at the Great House at Sonning are from the local Wokingham Office. They are always pretty easy going and so it is possible to shoot a good selection of stills and video during the wedding ceremony without any silly rules getting in the way
