Mags and Peter

Mags and Peter held their wedding ceremony at The Swiss Garden. The Swiss Garden is located at the Shuttleworth Collection, Old Warden, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. The venue is of course very well known as the home of a unique collection of vintage aircraft, and most photographers will have visited on one of the excellent flying days (the grass runway is superbly situated for shooting aircraft without the clutter of modern buildings spoiling the backdrop).

The Swiss Garden itself was created by a former owner of the estate around 1820, and improved by the Shuttleworth family in Victorian times. The result is an extensive and extremely photogenic garden.

Weddings in the UK must be conducted under permanent structures - you cannot get married outside - at at this venue the Swiss Garden Cottage is used. Its a very tight fit for the maximum of 20 guests inside as the staff are the first to admit but it can be done! Other guests can watch the proceedings from outside. I photographed most of the ceremony from outside using a long lens.

We were lucky enough to have excellent weather on the day and everyone was able to enjoy drinks in the gardens. We were entertained by a very extrovert peacock!

From Old Warden we made the journey to the centre of Bedford for the wedding breakfast and reception at Bedford Blues Rugby Club. We were treated to the tastiest and tenderest rack of lamb ever - yummy!
